Old Contemptables was name adopted by the original volunteers of the British Expeditionary Force (BEF) that served in the 1st Battle of Ypres 1914. The name originated by the German Kaiser who had contempt for the little British army that stood up to stronger German Army. The Detroit Branch formed in 1938 and amalgamated with the Windsor Branch in 1962.
Members of the 18th Battalion, CEF adopted the name for the original volunteers.
