Donated by Francine Nantais Hillman in 2010 from estate of Alfred Evans, Belle River.
A "Dead Man's Penny" or "Widow's Penny" was given to the family of every soldier of the Empire killed in WWI. 1,355,000 medallions were presented. It was an award the family never wanted to receive. This medallion is for 124467 Private Alfred Evans served in 18th Battalion, CEF and was KIA on August 18th 1917. Includes medal and ribbon-The Great war for Civilization 1914-1919, medal and ribbon-British War Medal 1914-1918.
